Challenge AreasINNOVATION TRACKS
Open Innovation Using Generative AI
Reimagine what's possible by leveraging AI, automation, and emerging digital tools to tackle meaningful challenges across Toyota's ecosystem. We're looking for forward-thinking solutions that push the limits of technology, sustainability, and customer experience.
Accelerating Our Future
As the automotive industry undergoes a seismic shift driven by electrification, digital ecosystems, and evolving customer expectations, R&D stands at the core of breakthrough innovation.
Vision Meets Precision
In the heart of every vehicle lies the power of precision - forged not just in metal, but in the split-second decisions made by data. This challenge is your call to build the next breakthrough in manufacturing intelligence. Create a computer vision model trained exclusively on real, raw images from the production floor. No synthetic shortcuts, just the true complexity of industrial-grade data.
Re-Imagining the Customer Experience
Reimagine the Toyota and Lexus ownership experience by designing innovative generative AI-powered solutions that put the customer at the center. This challenge invites participants to prototype digital tools that use Voice of the Customer (VoC) insights and connected data from Toyota, Lexus, and dealer systems to create a proactive, unified, and personalized experience.
The EventABOUT THE HACKATHON
SWARM (noun) - In Agile methodologies, SWARM (or "swarming") is a collaborative approach where multiple team members with relevant skills focus together on a single task or user story to complete it quickly. It accelerates progress by leveraging collective expertise and team energy. The SWARM Hackathon draws inspiration from this methodology—bringing it to life at scale. Established in 2019 and hosted by Toyota Motor North America’s OneTech and R&D organizations, in partnership with Toyota Connected North America, this annual global event brings together the brightest minds across Toyota to tackle real-world challenges in mobility, connected services, multimedia, manufacturing, safety, and more.Over an intense 72+ hour competition, cross-functional teams of six engineers, designers, and innovators collaborate to build working prototypes that reimagine the future of Toyota and Lexus products, services, and experiences. It's a high-energy, high-impact opportunity to shape what’s next.
